Shane Bieber has decided to take his $16 million player option and stay with the Blue Jays. I’m shocked. I was sure he would opt out and get more money, even if he went with a short-term contract. Apparently, he liked his Jays teammates and wants to stay with them, at least for another year, […]
The Athletic | Ian O’Connor: ($) O’Connor talks with Brian Cashman about the one word that’s anathema to all front offices, particularly the Yankees: “rebuild.” Understandably, given his team just tied for the most wins in the AL, the GM dismisses the notion of a tear-down out of hand. “There’s no indication that is something […]
On Monday, the San Francisco Giants made perhaps their least surprising offseason transaction in franchise history. As the offseason officially got underway, the Giants declined their team option for catcher Tom Murphy, opting for a $250,000 buyout rather than a $4 million salary. And thus ends the story of one of the worst transactions in […]

Baseball is the ultimate “talking sport” partly because it is so nuanced and partly because so often results come down to the tiniest play made — or not made. The 2025 World Series was “one for the ages,” coming, as it almost had to, down to the last play of an extra inning. Regardless of […]
The No. 5 ranked LSU women’s basketball team got the 2025-26 campaign off on the right foot as the Tigers (1-0) dominated Houston Christian 108-55 Tuesday night in the PMAC. Tuesday’s season opener was pretty much exactly what you would expect from a Final Four hopeful going up against a clearly outmatched Southland Conference opponent. […]
Pyotr Kochetkov made his season debut a huge success as he earned a 25 save shutout while the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the New York Rangers, 3-0 on Tuesday night at MSG. Kochetkov had been getting over an injury since the start of the season but he certainly looked healthy enough during this performance. The Rangers […]
The good news is that we begin yet another exciting Louisville women’s basketball season! The bad news is that it was against the defending national champions UConn who seemed to have picked up where they left off last year. Unfortunately the Cards followed a pattern that seems consistent when they’ve played the Huskies over the […]
Eli Drinkwitz and Mike Kelly returned to Tiger Talk Tuesday night in a new location, the Walsworth Family Columns Club at Memorial Stadium, as part of the Taste of the Tigers event benefitting The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri. Here’s what Drinkwitz, alongside safety Jalen Catalon and right tackle Keagen Trost, had to […]
The Rangers’ home struggles continue as they’re shut out by Carolina despite a strong start and a chance to extend their win streak.
While the current LSU Tigers did not have the opportunity to break our hearts, the NFL sure did! Let’s break down a bunch of other games before we get to yet more sadness brought on by an LSU quarterback getting killed. Stick through it for one final baseball update. Ravens 28 at Dolphins 6 Still […]
LSU is removing the interim from Verge Ausberry and promoting him to the university’s new full-time athletic director. Yahoo’s Ross Dellenger was the first to report the news and said that a formal announcement is expected in the coming days. Tuesday was a momentous day for LSU as the school’s Board of Supervisors also officially […]
In his recap/warning to Blue Jays fans following their quasi-singularly traumatic World Series Game 7 experience, Defector’s Barry Petchesky, referencing the Yankees loss against the Diamondbacks in 2001, put it thusly: So let’s have a little heart-to-heart chat, you, the grieving and traumatized Jays fan, me, a fan who was on the wrong side of what […]
In what was bound to happen, Harrison Bader parlayed his best season in a while into his opting out his end of a mutual option and will head into free agency once again. This was going to happen, so it should be no surprise. He had a very good season and will be in demand. […]
Royals fans already knew Salvy was returning next year, but the team ensured he’ll stay beyond that. The club announced a new two-year deal for the captain, keeping Salvador Perez in a Royals uniform through 2027. Terms have not been disclosed, but MLB.com reporter Anne Rogers reports it is $25 million over two years. The […]
The Atlanta Braves held their press conference introducing new skipper Walt Weiss earlier today, providing details around the new manager’s hiring. Here’s round-up of some of the notable points made during the press conference as well as the subsequent media rounds that took place after its conclusion. Among the highlights: Weiss will become the franchise’s […]
It’s the first week of November. College football’s regular season is 2/3 of the way through. And the Louisville Cardinals are squarely in the College Football Playoff mix. U of L checked in at No. 15 in the first CFP rankings, which were released Tuesday night on ESPN. The Cardinals are the second highest-ranked team […]
The front office and coaching overhaul continues as Scott Harris and his front office reshape both groups this offseason. Evan Petzold of the Free Press reported on Tuesday that back in September, the Detroit Tigers moved their director of international operations, Tom Moore, into a new senior advisor to the department position. In his place […]
The Atlanta Braves will be picking up the 2026 club option on long-time second baseman Ozzie Albies’ contract, according to what Alex Anthopolous said during a radio interview earlier today. Albies, who is the longest-tenured Brave, debuted in 2017. His 2026 option was for $7M but included a $4M buyout, making the additional monetary commitment […]
If you could extend one player who would it be? ISH95: I think the logical answer is Ryne Nelson. If Pfaadt earned one after last season, Nelson has blown away just about everything Pfaadt has done at this point so an extension seems logical. Spencer: Yeah for me it’s Nelson. Maybe Moreno but it’s Ryne. […]

The Arizona Cardinals are moving on. They have decided that Jacoby Brissett will start against the Seattle Seahawks, and presumably moving forward as they look to maintain position in the NFC Playoff race. The decision comes after Brissett and the Cardinals beat the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football, in which Brissett had 261 yards […]
It’s hard to see him way back there, but that’s Kyler Murray on the bench now. Head coach Jonathan Gannon just announced that Jacoby Brissett, not Murray, will be the Arizona Cardinals starting quarterback moving forward. The immediate reports made it sound like this was a play-based decision. Which it should be. That would be […]
Not a big surprise here. Right-hander Jack Flaherty has exercised his player option with the Tigers and will return for $20 million in 2026. The Tigers initially signed him to a two-year, $35 million deal last offseason, with the second year being a player option with an incentive attached if Flaherty spent most of the […]
This morning, Shota Imanaga became a free agent when both the team (3-years, $57M and a no-trade clause) and the player (1-year, $15M) rejected their contractual options. And although there’s still a chance Imanaga could return to the Cubs in 2025 by way of the $22M qualifying offer or a new free agent deal altogether, it sounds like both sides are getting ready to move on. Or, at least, the posturing has begun.
Shota Imanaga, the Cubs, and Free Agency
For the Cubs, that looks and so...
