GM #77: Seattle Kraken @ Winnipeg Jets

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Easter long weekend…I certainly am happy that I used a few holiday days to stretch it to a full 7 days without doing my day job. Moving on to look at the Western Conference’s wildcard race before action gets underway on Monday. The Winnipeg Jets are currently 3 points behind the Nashville Predators & Los Angeles Kings, who are tied for the 8th and final spot. The San Jose Sharks are only 2 points back of those clubs and 1 up on the Jets, while the St. Loui...

Series Preview: Mariners (4-6) at Rangers (4-5)

The Mariners are on a run of playing the AL West, facing Anaheim, Texas, and Houston in a row over the next two weeks. They got off to a bad start against what should be the soft part of that schedule, dropping the weekend series to the Angels as the bats continue to scuffle; they’ll […]

Porter Martone’s big first week for Flyers is turning heads

Porter Martone’s arrival in Philadelphia has made for little short of a revelation. Since signing his entry-level deal and joining the Flyers just a week ago, he’s stepped up to make an immediate and significant impact — Martone has jumped right in and flourished within the increased pace of play, and brought a confidence in playmaking that’s given the team’s offense an undeniable boost when they’ve needed it most. He’s been buzzing since his arrival, but he put just about as big of an ex...

Coffee with the Caps, Monday April 6

Good Monday morning, Caps fans. I hope you’re having a good start to your week and enjoying the spring-like weather we finally have. It was a wild ride on Saturday night but, somehow, someway the Caps pulled out a 3-2 win over Portland. And boy, is there a lot to unpack here. The Timbers looked a bit better than they did in the return fixture, … Source

Lacrosse: Offense improves vs John Hopkins, not enough to break through

Oregon’s best Big Ten offensive showing still wasn’t enough on Saturday, as the Ducks fell 21-9 to No. 10 Johns Hopkins at Papé Field. Gabby Santucci led the way with four goals and five points, matching her season high in goals and setting a new conference-play high in points. Lilly Fortin added two goals, and […]

The Oilers depth players are making meaningful progress

The Edmonton Oilers can rely on Connor McDavid to dominate for 22 minutes per night, but that alone isn’t enough to win a Stanley Cup. It’s whether they can limit the damage in the non-McDavid minutes that ultimately determines their ceiling. For months, depth issues defined their 2025-26 season, but lately, they’ve shown significant progress. …

Masters Week: ‘Dawgs in the Field

We’ve made it to Masters Week! This is when Dawg Sports becomes Dawgs Golf. It is a nice table setter for the end of Spring Practice in Athens and the sadly not-televised G-Day game. So don whatever Masters logo gear you were able to snag (or had your father-in-law give you for your birthday), mix […]

Flyers prospect Jack Berglund wants to stay in SHL next season

As the Philadelphia Flyers make an incredible push to get to the non-pandemic playoffs for the first time since 2018, an eye is on what potential prospects are doing around the hockey world. And one prospect that was rumored to potentially be on his way over to North America, might not want to stay in Sweden instead. Jack Berglund has impressed mightily this season. While some consternation about the initial pick was warranted, as none of the major public scouting services placed him anyw...

Rangers Reacts Results: First Reliever Up

In the latest Rangers Reacts, we asked who the first reliever up from the minors would be. Josh Sborz was the leading selection, being picked by a quarter of respondents, followed by Alexis Diaz, Marc Church, and Peyton Gray. As luck would have it, we got the answer over the weekend, when Carter Baumler was […]

NHL weekend rankings: Another coaching shocker rocks the East's pillow fight

The big news, for the second week in a row, is a shock coaching change. This time it’s the Islanders, with Patrick Roy being shown the door and Pete BeBoer taking over. This kind of move needs its own section, so we’ll cover the Islanders in more depth down below. But first, three quick thoughts, which might be the same three thoughts you had when you first heard the news: - Damn, Mathieu Darche is not messing around. - This was tough news to hear for a whole lot of teams that thought DeBoer w...

The week ahead: Penguins looking for just one win

When the 2025-26 NHL season began the Pittsburgh Penguins were given, by most models, less than a 10 percent chance of making the Stanley Cup Playoffs. As they enter play on Monday, with game No. 79 on the schedule ahead, MoneyPuck has them at a 99.9 percent chance to make the playoffs with an 8.2 […]

Monday Morning Texas Rangers Update

Good morning. Shawn McFarland has observations on the Texas Rangers who followed up the highs of opening week with a downturn upon entering The Shed. Kennedi Landry writes that the takeaway from Sunday’s latest impotent loss at home was that Jack Leiter is good. McFarland writes that Joc Peterson’s first hit of the season with […]

Weekly Game Day Thread – 4/6

Welcome to the Game Day Thread for the games in the week of 4/6. Pretty good week last week although the second period seems to be our kryptonite. Four games this week and we need some points in all. Still looking like a photo finish for that second wild card spot. Only a few more killer late starts (really killer for those of us in the Eastern Time Zone) and then we’ll finish out at home. Just a reminder – we’re always looking for new people to chat with and to be part of our community. ...
