Well…my off-season here at Arctic Ice Hockey hasn’t began well, as it has almost been 2 weeks since my last article on the site. That lapse in time saw a few things happen involving the Winnipeg Jets organization, including the re-signing of bottom six forward Cole Koepke , the True North club getting unlucky at the Lottery Draft and falling to the 8th overall selection, and the Manitoba Moose being eliminated from the American Hockey League playoffs. All that skipped over because I decided to...
AHL CENTRAL DIVISIONAL SEMIFINAL ROUND
Manitoba Moose (35-29-8) vs Grand Rapids Griffins (51-16-5)
***above graphic via MooseHockey.com.***
The Manitoba Moose were able to win their First Round series 2 games to 1 against the Milwaukee Admirals, using a pair of tight defensive 2-1 victories to move on in the AHL Playoffs and overcome dropping the opening contest. The biggest story line to arise from this matchup was the emergence of goaltender Dominic DiVincentiis . A bit...
**apologies for the delay in this, as I had most of it written up on Wednesday night but then ran into some computer issues that I just completely sorted out today.**
MOOSE REGULAR SEASON RECAP
The Manitoba Moose are the only club in the True North organization that is still playing hockey, since the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets and ECHL’s Norfolk Admirals both failed to qualify for the post-season. Not that the mini-Jets were a dominant AHL squad this year, only qualifying for the Central’s ...
With the Winnipeg Jets’ 2025-26 NHL season over and a mere 17 days until the Draft Lottery will take place, the True North fanbase will be turning their attention to fantasizing about which prospect the General Manager will be able to select with their high 1st round pick. To assist with these dreams of better times, I thought I would spend some time trying to sort out who might be available to become the next future Jets’ star.
Of course, this will be far from an accurate prediction sinc...
To quote one of my favourite movies, The Princess Bride …..
Vizzini: So, it is down to you, and it is down to me.
As the Winnipeg Jets and San Jose Sharks get set to finish the regular season of the National Hockey League’s 2025-26 campaign, the above quote is likely how the two franchises feel about each other. While there isn’t a playoff spot on the line or anything, the results of tonight’s game at the CLC will have an impact on the clubs’ lottery chances for the upcoming En...

After the Winnipeg Jets have been blown out in their last 2 matches, they will get no rest in a back-to-back situation. The reality of missing the playoffs has fully sunk in for the players….and that fact is noticeable in their on ice efforts. At least we get to watch some of the young kids get a shot in the big league for a few games before the off-season kicks off for our franchise.
Busy day today…..so the preview is going to be brief today.

Well, here we are in mid-April….the National Hockey League’s regular season has almost reached its conclusion and the Winnipeg Jets’ playoff hopes have all but evaporated. While our club hasn’t been mathematically eliminated, the True Northers have just a 0.5% chance at qualifying ( according to MoneyPuck ).
A slew of injuries ( 137 games missed by Winnipeg’s top 15 players ) and too many underperforming secondary scorers has seen our Jets go from soaring with the NHL’s elite franchises t...

Well, the National Hockey League’s 2025-26 regular season is nearing its conclusion…..and it has certainly been an interesting one for the Winnipeg Jets. Coming off a President’s Trophy win, the True Northers had high hopes entering the campaign….but injury issues reared their ugly head during the off-season & training camp, starting the Jets off on the wrong foot.
Despite missing key players like Adam Lowry , Dylan Samberg , & Cole Perfetti , Winnipeg started off well by winning 9 of the...

I know that this game preview is a day early, as the Winnipeg Jets do not play until Thursday….but I have a bunch of teleconferences scheduled for tomorrow, so thought I would get it done while I have time.
In Tuesday’s NHL action, neither the St. Louis Blues nor Seattle Kraken used their game in hand on Winnipeg to gain points, as both dropped their contests to stay behind the Jets in the standings. The Nashville Predators did win their match, so they now have a 4 pt advantage on the Tru...

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Easter long weekend…I certainly am happy that I used a few holiday days to stretch it to a full 7 days without doing my day job.
Moving on to look at the Western Conference’s wildcard race before action gets underway on Monday. The Winnipeg Jets are currently 3 points behind the Nashville Predators & Los Angeles Kings, who are tied for the 8th and final spot. The San Jose Sharks are only 2 points back of those clubs and 1 up on the Jets, while the St. Loui...

After an idle Friday for the Winnipeg Jets, the National Hockey League’s out of town scoreboard ended up shuffling the True Northers down the standings as the St. Louis Blues continue to string wins together ( 6-2-2 in past 10 ). Unfortunately for the tankers among the fanbase, the Seattle Kraken lost their 3rd straight contest and missed a chance to overtake the Jets, thus our hockey team is sitting with the 6th best odds in the upcoming Lottery Draft.

With their win over the Chicago Blackhawks, the True North franchise pulled within a point of the Western Conference’s final wildcard spot while moving up the standings to sit with the National Hockey League’s 23rd best record. Yet, the races are so tight at this point of time, that situation changed with last night’s slate of games.
In a contest that the Winnipeg Jets would have been very interested in since the clubs involved are just ahead and behind them in the wildcard race, the Los ...

The Winnipeg Jets immediately flew to Chicago after their 4-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday, giving them a couple of days in the Windy City. This allowed Jonathan Toews the opportunity to throw out the first pitch in front of his teammates and all the Chicago Cub fans at Wrigley Field. Maybe they hit some of the other highlights like Millennium Park or the Green Mill as well?
But with the weekend over, the True Northers will have to get back to work in the final stretch as t...

A busy day in the National Hockey League, as 30 of 32 franchises will be in action on this Saturday in late March. With teams having between 9 and 12 games remaining in the regular season, the final push for playoff and Lottery draft standings is in full effect.
When it comes to the Winnipeg Jets ( 72 pts ) and their place in the NHL standings, these 8 contests will be the ones to keep an eye on:
FLA ( 73 ) @ NYI – NJ ( 76 ) @ CAR – SJ ( 71 ) @ CLM – SEA ( 74 ) @ BUF – TOR ( 75 ) @ S...

The True North organization dipped into the undrafted free agent pool resulting from the conclusion of the NCAA hockey season ( at least for the non-playoff teams ). This time GM Kevin Cheveldayoff inked a 24 yr forward from the University of St. Thomas named Lucas Wahlin .
The Minnesota-born winger signed a one year contract with the Winnipeg Jets, starting in the 2026-27 NHL sea...

Up until now, the Jets have stubbornly remained in the wildcard fight, routinely picking up at least one point ( only outright lost 4 of their past 16 contests ). Despite Winnipeg often adding points to their year total, they actually have only managed to move from the 5th worst record to the 7th. However, since there are 5 teams with 2 or less points ahead of them in the standings….our hockey team could significant diminish the value of their upcoming 1st round draft pick over the remainder o...

After I clocked out for the week from my full time gig, I decided to spend a bit of time looking to see what the likelihood is the Winnipeg Jets will use their final 14 remaining games to move up or down in the standings.
The recent losses to the Nashville Predators and Boston Bruins have made a playoff bid even more unlikely, yet the True Northers are still only 5 points back of the Los Angeles Kings for the Western Conference’s final wildcard spot. However, with three more clubs between...

With the surprising win on Saturday over the league leading Colorado Avalanche, the Winnipeg Jets have managed to pull within 6 points of the Western Conference’s final wildcard spot. That spot is currently being held by the San Jose Sharks, who have played 1 less game than the True Northers, and our club still needs to pass 4 other franchises in standings before they could grab that last post-season berth. So there is a lot of work to be done with only 17 more contests left in the regular sea...
The National Hockey League had a light schedule for Friday, with only two games on the books…yet both outcomes had an impact on our franchise. With the St. Louis Blues’ overtime win against the Edmonton Oilers, the Winnipeg Jets fell from 27th to 28th in the standings and the Los Angeles Kings victory over the New York Islanders extended the gap to the Western Conference’s final wildcard spot to 7 points.
So the True Northers fell back on a night they weren’t even playing…….and now they h...
Since both the Winnipeg Jets & Seattle Kraken lost on Tuesday night, our team remains 5 points back of the NHL’s Western Conference’s final wildcard spot…though the Los Angeles Kings have now joined the Kraken at 67 points, while the San Jose Sharks & Nashville Predators are just a single point back of that. So while the True Northers have closed the gap to a potential playoff berth…..they have yet to pass any of the clubs in their way.
The Jets’ points streak came to an abrupt end, with ...
