Former Cubs Reliever Phil ‘The Vulture’ Regan Passes Away

According to MLB, Phil Regan has departed this vale of tears, leaving behind him his 11.5 career bWAR, 743 strikeouts, 96 wins, and 93 saves. Regan was notorious for letting the tying runs score in games he was supposed to close and getting a win instead of a save on such occasions. That penchant for … The post Former Cubs Reliever Phil ‘The Vulture’ Regan Passes Away appeared first on .

After getting thumped, 8-1, in Tuesday’s series opener, the White Sox will get a shot at redemption and even the series against the Red Sox. Chicago Cubs Lineup (7/8/26): Rea Facing Kremer in Charm City

It’s always a good thing to start a series with a win, particularly coming off a rough weekend. Rest in Peace Phil Regan

By Jay Horwitz For me, Phil Regan always looked indestructible. Well, into his 70s, he was throwing batting practice on the field while serving in our minor league system as a coach and instructor. He even served as a major league pitching coach for a part of 2019. That’s why I couldn’t believe the news today that Phil had passed away at the age of 89 after a brief illness. As a member of the Cubs, he pitched against the Miracle Mets in 1969. Nicknamed “The Vulture” for the 96 wins his picked ...
