*We have another week of hockey in the books for the Flyers, and it’s been a reasonably productive one for them. While we’re waiting for them to get back to game action, we’re going to recap some of their top performances of this past week. [ BSH ]
*What is not covered in our breakdown on the top performances of the week, of course, is the… shall we say… active weekend that unfolded over on Flyers twitter, and which spilled into today’s off day as well. Everybody’s talking about it! Bill ...

The Philadelphia Flyers are 15 games in and have a record of 8-5-2. This time last season after the same amount of games they were 5-8-2. But that hasn’t been the only change that’s been rather apparent this season. A few players are starting to do a lot of good things, the special teams are coming to life, and the goaltenders are stopping shots more than last season. Here then in no particular order are five of the biggest surprises so far in this rather young 2025-26 season.

Another week for the Flyers has come and gone, and it was a pretty good week for the Orange and Black. Across three games this week, the Flyers went 2-0-1, collecting 5 of 6 possible points.
On Tuesday and Thursday, the Flyers went into Montreal and Nashville and came away with two gutsy road victories. On Saturday, the Flyers couldn’t recover from a lackluster start in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Ottawa Senators.
So, without further ado, let’s dive into the three standout...

The Phantoms wrapped up their first month’s worth of action over the weekend, and with a huge win over the visiting Toronto Marlies, they were able to stretch their winning streak to a season high of four games, put some separation in between them and the trailing Checkers for that third position in the standings, and continue to make some marked progress in fine tuning their team-level process.
It wasn’t a perfect showing, as the team struggled a bit in the first period to get their offe...

When head coach John Tortorella left at the end of last season, Cam York’s play left a lot of questions for the Philadelphia Flyers. Since he was drafted 14th overall in 2019, there has been a lot of pressure placed upon his shoulders to become a key piece of an improved Flyers defense. Between being selected around marquee names like Cole Caufield, Matt Boldy, his new teammate Trevor Zegras, and being frozen out by his old coach John Tortorella, York’s future in Philadelphia seemed like it ma...

As the Flyers keep their head above water in the tightly-packed Metropolitan Division, a lot of the defensive play has centered on a new concept. Namely, not blocking every shot every shift which former coach John Tortorella preached ad nauseam.
Rick Tocchet still wants players to block shots, but it’s not the end all and be all of the team’s success in their own end. It looks more like a Plan C or D option to prevent the other team from scoring. Tocchet is relying on lanes being cleared ...

Philadelphia Flyers star youngster Matvei Michkov is finally looking like himself on the ice. After a rough start to his season caused by a setback in his offseason training and just not being up to full speed, the 20-year-old has now scored two goals in his last two games. And that includes a beautiful tally that he netted against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday afternoon.
But it isn’t always sunshine and rainbows as he returns to looking like the dominant force that he was for the major...

The Philadelphia Flyers are relying heavily on Matvei Michkov panning out to be a very good player that could even flirt with stardom and be the best player on their team going forward. But unfortunately to start this season, he has played extremely poorly. Concerns about a sophomore slump has only been accented as the season has gone on and we’ve been trying to look for signs of last year’s rookie sensation still on the ice.
Michkov looked slow and not just in his skating but thinking th...

The top-ranked Michigan State Spartans got their first taste of Big Ten play this season, hosting the No. 3 ranked Penn State Nittany Lions over the weekend. The main storyline in this matchup was Porter Martone facing off against Gavin McKenna, and the Flyers’ 2025 sixth overall pick came out on top over the course of the series.

The Philadelphia Flyers have an uncanny ability to make every single game a roller coaster ride. That remained true Saturday afternoon in their matinee tilt against the Ottawa Senators at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

After a quick two-game road trip during the week, the Flyers are back on home ice for a matinee matchup against the Senators. It’s a good chance for them to keep the momentum rolling after pulling off a sweep of the road trip, but sustaining momentum has been a bit of a trouble spot for this team so far this season, so we’ll see how this one goes.

The Philadelphia Flyers were able to overcome a fairly bad game by their standards and still sneak out with the full two points against the Nashville Predators in Thursday night’s 3-1 win on the road. It was sunshine and rainbows for the visitors — Matvei Michkov scored his first goal in 10 games, Travis Konecny got on the stat sheet, Cam York and Noah Cates continued their excellent seasons — but over on the other side of the ice it was pure misery and distain.

As the Phantoms are working themselves through this long season, each week seems to bring them a new hurdle to face, and this past week has been no different. Coming off of a reasonably sound performance in their home-and-home series with the Bears in the weekend before, the Phantoms set off on their longest road trip of the season to date, heading up to Laval for a one-off game on Wednesday, before traveling back down for a pair of games in Hartford on Friday and Saturday, and closing things ...

Coming off of a gutsy shootout win on Tuesday in Montreal, the Flyers wrapped up their quick little road trip in Nashville tonight, and it was another strange game, but one which amounted to another big win for them. The Philadelphia Flyers are coming off one of the most exciting games of their young season after winning and losing and then winning again against the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre. And because of that powerful performance, head coach Rick Tocchet is going with the same lineup — an untouched roster to hopefully get another two points over the Nashville Predators.

There is no other prospect in the Philadelphia Flyers system that needed to show that they belonged than Denver Barkey. The winger with all the motor in the world was able to play a prominent role on a dominant London Knights team in the OHL, but that was junior hockey. Barkey needed to make himself known within the first few weeks of turning pro and lacing up for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
There were questions coming into this year. We have seen it so often that a player with Barkey’s 5...

Trevor Zegras once again played a big part in a Philadelphia Flyers victory on Tuesday night. He had two power-play assists in the first period to put the team up 3-0, and came through in the shootout to help secure the victory.
Zegras is now up to 15 points (4 goals, 11 assists) in his first 13 games with the Flyers, proving to be a great offseason addition for Danny Briere & Co.
The 24-year-old forward needed a change of scenery, and he’s making the most of it in Philadelphia.

In the Flyers’ first 13 games, the goaltending generally hasn’t been the crux of the team’s woes. The tandem of Dan Vladar and Sam Ersson (and now Aleksei Kolosov) have been holding Philadelphia in games for the most part. There have been a few clunkers but, generally, they have held up their end of the bargain.
Prior to Wednesday’s slate of games, Vladar finds himself sixth in the league in goals against average (2.33) but has fallen to 15th now in terms of save percentage (.912), since ...
