The final week of the regular season is upon us, and the Flyers have just two games to take care of that final bit of business and clinch a playoff spot for themselves. A win tonight against the Hurricanes would do it, and they have a prime opportunity ahead of them, as it looks like Carolina will be without some of their big guns in this final matchup of the season.

The Philadelphia Flyers need just two points to then clinch the playoffs for the first time since 2020 and host a playoff game for the first time since 2018. Just one single, little win will get them that spot and thanks to the Carolina Hurricanes, it might come a little bit easier than once thought.
It’s no mystery that the Hurricanes have proven to be unbeatable for the Flyers in recent years. This season they have two shootout losses and an overtime loss against them, last season it wa...
The Carolina Hurricanes (52-22-6) are in the “City of Brotherly Love” to do battle with the Philadelphia Flyers (41-27-12) in a game with playoff implications. The Hurricanes need just one point to wrap up first place in the Eastern Conference. The Flyers can clinch third place in the Metropolitan Division with a win, which of […]
On April 10th in 2010, Boston Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron prevented a third period own goal stopping Blake Wheeler's pass from entering their empty net during a delayed Jerome Samson penalty up 3-2 in a must-win game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Boston added an empty net goal to their three shorthanded markers to beat Carolina that afternoon by a score of 4-2 and clinch a playoff spot.
Jordan Staal notched his 20th goal of the season and the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Utah Mammoth, 4-1 on Saturday evening in Salt Lake City. It was Staal’s first 20 goal season in nine years. The Canes have now won three games in a row and they look like they are certainly peaking at the […]
After their 7-2 shellacking of Chicago on Thursday night, the Carolina Hurricanes (51-22-6) are now in Utah to face the Mammoth (42-30-6) for a match today. The Canes have won three in a row and they are 7-3-0 in their last 10 games. They are two points ahead of Buffalo for first place in the […]
The Chicago Blackhawks fell 7-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night at the United Center in a game that unraveled almost immediately.
The Hurricanes went up 1-0 just 19 seconds into the game. Nikolaj Ehlers set up Sean Walker, who ripped a wrist shot past Spencer Knight before the Blackhawks had a chance to settle in.

The Carolina Hurricanes beat the Chicago Blackhawks, 7-2, on Thursday night to inch closer to locking up the top seed in the Eastern Conference. After clinching the division on Tuesday and calling up four players from the Chicago Wolves, the Hurricanes ruled out many regular faces including Seth Jarvis, Sebastian Aho, Andrei Svechnikov and Jaccob […]
Head down to the comments to talk about Thursday’s game against the Hurricanes!
Game Preview
The Chicago Blackhawks wrap up the season with a four-game homestand, starting Thursday night against the Carolina Hurricanes.
It’s been a little over two months since the Blackhawks last saw the Hurricanes, and not much has changed for the team from Carolina. The Hurricanes are perched atop the Metropolitan Division, having locked up the top divisional seed by sitting 10 points clear of the second-place Pittsburgh Penguins. Only the Colorado Avalanche have put together a better overall s...
The Carolina Hurricanes (50-22-6) are on the road tonight to take on the Chicago Blackhawks (28-36-14) at 8:30 PM, two days after clinching the Metropolitan Division. A 6-5 win over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday allowed the Canes to clinch the division with four games left to go, as the playoffs inch closer. If the […]
For a last regular season game, the fans in the Lenovo Center on Thursday got one entertaining affair. A game that saw multiple lead changes, six different Hurricanes scoring, a Boston Bruins hat trick, a goalie being replaced, and an overtime winner all equaled a 6-5 win by the Carolina Hurricanes over the Boston Bruins. […]
Maybe an old-school photo can reverse the vibes for the Bruins? Yes, that IS current GM Don Sweeney celebrating with Sergei Samsonov, Joe Thornton, and, eventually, Kyle McLaren! That photo comes from way back in 1999, when the Bruins eliminated the Hurricanes in the first round of the playoffs. I still remember the Boston Globe […]
It’s been a long road, but for the last time in the regular season the Carolina Hurricanes will take the ice in the Lenovo Center. They’ll do so—again stop me if you heard this before—with a chance to clinch the Metropolitan Division and home ice advantage in at least the first two rounds of the […]
Happy Monday, everyone. Hope your week has gotten off to a nice start. As usual, there’s lots to get to on Hurricanes athletics, so let’s do it. 1) I have said before in this piece that Monday Musings is kind of like an open dialogue of my mind about whatever is going on with the […]
On the game schedule, the Islanders are idle for several days, but the events around them are anything but. On Sunday, the long-looming games in hand came to roost as the Senators beat the Hurricanes and the Flyers beat the Bruins, both climbing above the Isles to push them out of a playoff spot — […]
A much, much better effort than yesterday
When the pregame hype reel was released on social media for Sunday’s game against Ottawa, the sight of Nicolas Deslauriers walking in and his jersey being hung ended up being a signal that Carolina was prepared to have at least one player sit out. It turns out two players didn’t make the trip to Ottawa—Jordan […]
There’s no rest for the weary Hurricanes as they have to take a quick trip North of the Border for the last time in the regular season to face off against an Ottawa team that’s—stop me if you heard this one before—fighting for its spot in the playoffs. In the last two weeks—starting with the […]
The storm is here. Can the Sens ride the waves?
Seth Jarvis scored two goals and had an assist as the Carolina Hurricanes dominated the New York Islanders, 4-3 on Saturday night at the Lenovo Center. While the score was close, the Canes controlled puck possession and shots. The home team outshot the visitors 13-4 in the first period and 18-2 in the second. Overall, […]
The Nashville Predators began their search for a new General Manager earlier this season when Barry Trotz announced he'd be stepping down. He and the front office are continuing their search, and word is they've tried to poach one of the most forward-thinking GMs in hockey. Only problem is, his current employers aren't interested in letting him go. Elliotte Friedman explains on Hockey Night in Canada: The Carolina Hurricanes wouldn't talk about it today, but I'm under the understanding.....
The Islanders took the lead twice in this game off early goals in the first and second period, but once again came up short. Marc Gatcomb scored his third of the season, Max Shabanov scored in his return to the lineup, Anders Lee picked up his third goal in four games, Mat Barzal got his […]
The Islanders have chosen a fantastic time to lose three straight in regulation for just the second time this season, the first coming in the opening days. That puts them in a very vulnerable position even though they start today still in playoff position by a point. Simon Holmstrom returned from injury in last night’s […]
The New York Islanders (42-30-5) are visiting Raleigh to take on the Carolina Hurricanes (48-21-6) tonight at the Lenovo Center. With a win, the Hurricanes can wrap up the Metropolitan Division title. The Islanders are currently in third place in the division and they are fighting for their playoff lives. So far they have wilted […]
