The Edmonton Oilers had no issue with the Connor Bedard-less Chicago Blackhawks on Monday night, cruising to a 4-1 victory to open their mini two-game road trip in the Central Division. After a dominant first few minutes for the visiting team, Zach Hyman opened the scoring with five minutes left to go in the opening…

The Oilers got back in the win column on Monday night with a 4-1 victory over the Blackhawks, shaking off Saturday’s frustrating loss to the Kings. That’s not to say that getting the win in Chicago was smooth sailing for 60 minutes, but it was the kind of response you want to see after letting…

The Blackhawks couldn’t hang with the two-time defending Western Conference champions on Monday night at the United Center, losing 4-1 to the Edmonton Oilers.
Edmonton opened the scoring about 15 minutes into the first period when Evan Bouchard used Zach Hyman as a human backboard while tied up with Alex Vlasic in front of the Chicago goal, putting the Oilers up 1-0:

The Edmonton Oilers now have a point in their last four games. After a 4-3 shootout loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, the Oilers began a two-game road trip with their dads in tow, beginning their first matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday. Right when we were all excited for a Connor vs Connor matchup and seeing the Blackhawks at full strength with Bedard back in the lineup… it was Bedard who got sick and was not in the lineup. Spencer Knight was really good, and the skaters in front of him were also very active with their sticks. Unfortunately, it was a shot that hit a body that got Edmonton on the board first almost 15 minutes into the contest. Zach Hyman was credited with the goal.
Evan Bouchard banked a shot into the net...

We thought the Blackhawks were done with the whole being sick thing when everyone showed up looking good at the morning skate on Monday.
We are in fact not clear. And this one hurts.
Connor Bedard , who returned from his shoulder injury just two games ago and had two beautiful assists on Saturday night in Nashville, will not play against Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night because he’s sick.

As we get closer to the Olympic break, it seems like there are going to be two stories to follow in the NHL: is the arena ready in Milan yet? and who’s getting traded before the fifth of February?
There was a flurry of action around the NHL on Monday. The biggest headline grabbing news was a surprise coaching change. But there were a couple notable contracts signed, a former Blackhawks prospect got called up and a veteran netminder might be done for the year.
Let’s take a quick lap a...

The Edmonton Oilers head to Chicago tonight to face a Blackhawks team that’s been through absolute chaos recently. An illness bug ripped through the roster, taking out five starters at one point. The Blackhawks look to continue their strong start to 2026 when they face the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night at the United Center.
When these two teams met in Edmonton back on Nov. 1, the Oilers were still in their typical early-season malaise, owning just a 5-4-3 record before beating the Hawks 3-2 in overtime . But Edmonton hit the gas around Thanksgiving, going 11-5-1 in late November and most of December to surge from outside of the playoff picture to second place in the Pacific Divi...

The Blackhawks got a well-earned day off on Sunday. Well earned both because they won a game in Nashville on Saturday night and, frankly, they need to get away from each other and get this flu bug out of their collective systems. They’re rolling right now; the Blackhawks’ only loss this calendar year was on Friday night with a bunch of guys missing and others playing at less than 100 percent.
But the calendar doesn’t slow down in the NHL, and it sure doesn’t for the Blackhawks in January ...

What a night!
On January 10, the Chicago Bulls, the Blackhawks , the Cubs , and the Bears all grabbed a win of their own. The city is riding a wave of euphoria it doesn’t quite know how to handle, but it’s handling it with a lot of smiles and plenty of flexing on social media. I don’t know about you, but the way the Bulls won last night was the real surprise.

Thanks in large part to its goaltending, Chicago picked up two more vital points with a 3-0 win on the road over the Nashville Predators on Saturday night.
After a scoreless first period, the Hawks took the lead for good at the 6:41 mark of the second, when Connor Bedard evaded some Nashville defenders and found Tyler Bertuzzi in his usual spot for a tap-in goal:

The Blackhawks have a quick turnaround from Friday’s loss at home to Washington, as they’re in Nashville on Saturday night to face the Predators.
It’s the second between meeting between these two teams this season, with Nashville taking two points in the first one with a 4-3 victory at the United Center over Thanksgiving weekend. That win was right around the time that the Predators turned things around from a woeful 6-12-4 start. In the five or six weeks since, Nashville is 14-7-0, surgi...

The Hawks had to bring Stanislav Berezhnoy on the trip, so the options in net are two guys who started last night… and both of whom should be in the AHL right now. If Blackhawks head coach didn’t know what he was going to do in net after last night’s game doesn’t give you pause going into this one, the fact that half of the roster is sick and they played last night is a recipe for potentially bad times ahead in Nashville.
But you know what? Connor Bedard is back and Oliver Moore is playin...

I want to take a quick second to give Drew Commesso some credit. I wrote this in the comments on the game story from last night , but it bears repeating. On Thursday, the Blackhawks traded Laurent Brossoit to San Jose. Commesso went to bed back on top of the depth chart in Rockford, planning for a home start against the Chicago Wolves.
Commesso woke up on a game day for the IceHogs and, by lunchtime, found himself driving to Chicago. Blackhawks head coach Jeff Blashill said Spencer Knight...

There’s a flu bug ripping thru the Blackhawks room right now. Nick Foligno, Ilya Mikheyev and Arvid Söderblom were not at the morning skate on Friday before the Hawks host the Washington Capitals.
So, after watching Blackhawks legend Scott Foster take reps at the morning skate, it makes sense that the Blackhawks would need a viable backup if Söderblom can’t go; the Blackhawks have a back-to-back with a trip to Nashville after the game tonight. They then play again on Monday night.
