Today In NHL History - Dale Hunter Hits Turgeon

On April 28th in 1993, Washington Capitals forward Dale Hunter delivered a late shoulder-separating hit on New York Islanders center Pierre Turgeon after the Lady Byng recipient converted Hunter's defensive-end turnover for the Isles 5th goal in Game 6 of the Patrick Division Semifinal. Witnessing the foul firsthand at Nassau Coliseum, the newly appointed Commissioner Gary Bettman assessed a 21

Mets Morning News: A win? Is that allowed?

Meet the Mets The Mets beat the Nationals 8-0, with most of the offense coming in the fourth inning during a seven run offensive outburst, the likes of which have been unheard of for the Mets this season. Choose your recap: Amazin’ Avenue, MLB.com, New York Daily News, New York Post Firing Carlos Mendoza in […]

Wednesday Morning Fly By: Now is the time

*Big Game 6 tonight for our boys, back on home ice with their third chance to knock the Penguins out for good. Game 7 would be a bad idea, and it’s easy to be feeling a little negative after two straight losses, but maybe we all need to settle down a little. Maybe. [ BSH ] *Did you hear Matvei Michkov was scratched in Game 5? Did you notice this? Anyone you know talking about it? Anyway maybe we need to settle down about that too. [ BSH ] *Charlie has some Thoughts on what it is that...

Washington Nationals vs New York Mets Game Thread

The Nats are headed to Queens to face a Mets team that has fallen on their face so far this season. They are 9-19, which is tied for the worst record in baseball. With Alex Cora and Rob Thomson having been fired, Carlos Mendoza’s seat is red hot. However, a wounded animal can be the […]

Commanders should sign Jauan Jennings, other free agents with NFL draft done

The Commanders have tons of salary-cap space. There’s $49.5 million available, as a matter of fact. That’s the second most in the NFL, with $42.7 million free even after they pay Sonny Styles and the rest of the 2026 NFL draft class.   In other words, general manager Adam Peters can make some moves if they see fit. This roster still has holes, especially following […]

Mets will start David Peterson against Nationals on Wednesday

The Mets hadn’t officially listed who their starting pitcher would be for the second game of their series against the Nationals until this afternoon, but it’s official now: David Peterson is getting the start. The 30-year-old lefty had lost his rotation spot after a string of very bad outings, but he’s fared better working multiple […]

Mets announce Juan Soto is dealing with forearm tightness

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that Juan Soto experienced forearm tightness after throwing on Friday, and the team is hoping he can get back to playing the field in the next few days. For now, Soto is in the Mets’ lineup as the team’s designated hitter for their series opener against the Nationals tonight at […]

Mets place Kodai Senga on IL, recall Christian Scott

Ahead of their series opener against the Nationals on Tuesday, the Mets placed Kodai Senga on the 15-day injured list with lumbar spine inflammation and recalled Christian Scott from Triple-A Syracuse. Senga came out of the gate strong this season. In his first two starts, the 33-year-old pitched 11.2 innings, allowing four runs (3.09 ERA) […]

Daily Slop: 28 Apr 26 – Let’s talk in depth about Commanders 3rd-round draft pick, WR Antionio Williams

Commanders links Articles The Athletic (paywall) A closer look at the Washington Commanders’ roster after the NFL Draft Edge rusher This is where the Commanders have focused much of their attention — and money — during the offseason. They certainly got younger and more athletic, but the group lacks long-term depth, which means they’ll be […]

Mets Morning News: Carlos Mendoza’s job is safe…for now

Meet the Mets The Mets officially DFA’ed Tommy Pham and signed Austin Slater to a major league deal. Slater will be active for tonight’s game against the Nationals. The club also claimed Eric Wagaman off waivers from the Twins. Following losing their second game on Sunday, Howie Rose had an ominous warning for Carlos Mendoza […]

Four new Sonny Styles T-shirts

Sonny Styles is the Washington Commanders newest 1st-round pick, and he’s already a big deal in D.C. He will sign a contract soon to join a team that is totally revamping its defense, and Styles is expected to be a big part of that transformation. He was a leader at Ohio State, and will be […]

Coffee with the Caps, Monday April 27

Good Monday morning Caps fans, hope you all had an enjoyable weekend and that you are gearing up for a good week ahead. Vancouver wrapped up their lengthy homestand in style on Saturday, dispatching the Colorado Rapids 3-1. Much like many of their wins this season, the final score could have been (should have been?) even more emphatic. Nonetheless, this was a strong performance. Cheikh … Source

Monday Quickie - Foster-ing ideas of greatness

The Nats keep chugging along four steps forward, five steps back, and last game Foster Griffin shut down the White Sox. Ignore the White Sox for a moment, any chance the fancy stats say something is real here?  No. Griffin has pitched a lot like Jake Irvin but his BABIP sits at .233 (abnormally low) and his LOB% at 90.3% (abnormally high) and so they aren't scoring the runs off his that they "should". He's not getting a crazy amount of GBs (could be better) or avoiding hard contact (no on...
