Flyers prospect Porter Martone completes the hat trick, hits 20-goal mark

In what was another dominant weekend for the Michigan State Spartans, Porter Martone once again proved why he’s seen as one of the best prospects in college hockey. The freshman winger exploded for four goals across the series, highlighted by a Friday night hat trick that showcased many elements of his toolkit. In the end, Michigan State defeated Notre Dame by a final score of 8-2. The Spartans wasted little time in this one, with Martone setting the tone almost immediately. Just over a m...

Flyers’ recent prospect call-ups are quietly redefining depth chart

As the Flyers reconvene ahead of the return of their Olympic representatives, and the roster starts to prepare for the final 26 games of the year, some new faces joined the big club for practice, albeit briefly. Goaltender Carson Bjarnason, as well as defensemen Oliver Bonk and Hunter McDonald, were all called up from Lehigh Valley in order to fill in the gaps left behind by Dan Vladar, Rasmus Ristolainen, and Travis Sanheim, who all made the trip to Milano-Cortina.  Bjarnason came up on ...

Flyers coach putting pressure on Matvei Michkov to finish season well

Some key pieces of the Flyers are still over in Italy battling for medals. But most of the club has been back in Philadelphia practicing. And after three consecutive days where the team was getting back in the swing of things, assistant coach Todd Reirden says it’s important for some players to have strong finishes. And none of those came to the fore more than winger Matvei Michkov during Thursday’s post-practice presser. Although Reirden spoke in depth about the trio of players called up...

Friday Morning Fly By: Here’s to the golden girls

*Congrats to the Team USA women on their big come-from-behind win over Canada for gold yesterday! Very exciting! [ Yahoo ] *Pardon the “and how does this affect the Leafs” energy, but here’s a few lessons the Flyers could learn from Team USA’s big win. [ BSH ] *Anyhoo, like we mentioned yesterday the Flyers are back on the ice for practice, and Emil Andrae is doing everything he possibly can to get Rick Tocchet to put him back in the lineup. [ Inquirer ] *He’s not seen any game ...

What the Flyers can learn from Team USA women’s gold medal win

It’s done. The dominant USA women’s team were deservingly awarded the gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics and it is the perfect conclusion to their story. They didn’t face much adversity until Thursday afternoon’s game against Canada, but that was also expected as the tournament would have been nothing if it wasn’t these two archrivals facing one another on the world’s biggest stage. As the Americans walked through Canada with a clutch last-minute goal and then Megan Keller scored the ...

3 Flyers who have most to gain for rest of the season

The Philadelphia Flyers have 26 games left of their season and while they are on track to miss the playoffs, there could still be something positive to take for a couple players. We’ve already looked at how three Flyers should be looking at the rest of the 2025-26 season to avoid the worst-case scenarios . But it’s time to believe that the glass isn’t half-empty but half-full. Here then is a look at three Flyers who have the most to gain the rest of the season with strong finishes. F...

Flyers prospect Oliver Bonk reflects on first NHL call-up after injury setback

The NHL is still on break due to the 2026 Winter Olympics tournament playing out through the rest of the week, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything going on. The Philadelphia Flyers returned to practice earlier this week and with the sessions happening but no actual games going on, they used the opportunity to get a closer look at some young players. First, it was goaltender Carson Bjarnason that was recalled to be the team’s second netminder with Dan Vladar at the Olympics and Sam ...

Thursday Morning Fly By: The boys are back on ice

*The Flyers are back to practicing over in Voorhees and while they are still thinking playoffs, they appear to be self-aware enough to know that it’s going to take a lot of leveling up in order for them to make it in. [ Inquirer ] *Travis Konecny still yearns for playoffs. And seems to believe this team is on its way to getting there. [ NBC Sports Philly ] *In fact, Konecny has not been deterred by missing out on making Team Canada and heading to Milan with the Larger Travis. No, thi...

Flyers prospect Christian Kyrou regaining his footing with Phantoms

The Phantoms are in the midst of, undeniably, the most challenging period of their season, to date. But while the results for the team as a whole have been at times maddeningly uneven, this period hasn’t been without its share of positives smattered throughout. The Phantoms have seen good flashes of impact up and down their lineup, but perhaps most notably, this last month and a half has seen Christian Kyrou making really positive strides to course correct on him game, and get things moving in...

3 Flyers who have most to lose for rest of this season

The Philadelphia Flyers have resumed practicing although the hockey games are still being played in Italy. The season has 26 games left in it, and the Flyers need to go on a very hot streak with as many regulation wins as possible to even be in the running for a playoff spot. But beyond that, there are a few Flyers who have a lot riding on these last 26 games. Whether it’s for a contract extension, a boost in self-confidence going into the summer, or simply playing well enough to maybe find an...

Flyers recall goalie prospect Carson Bjarnason from Phantoms

The Philadelphia Flyers are getting a helping hand from the AHL during the Olympic break, in the form of a young netminder who has been having a solid rookie season. Announced by the team Tuesday afternoon, the Flyers have officially recalled 20-year-old netminder Carson Bjarnason up from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. While it is more of just something they officially have to do on-paper, it is still nice to see a guy getting a chance to be amongst the NHL squad. Transaction: We have r...

Should Flyers sign Jeff Skinner as a free agent?

On Monday, despite a lull in the National Hockey League, the San Jose Sharks announced they’re parting company with veteran winger Jeff Skinner. The team put him on unconditional waivers in order to terminate the contract he has with the club. If he clears waivers on Tuesday, then he becomes an unrestricted free agent and is eligible to sign with whoever he pleases. The question then would be if Skinner would be a fit for the Flyers down the stretch. Skinner signed a one-year deal with Ed...

Flyers’ Travis Sanheim shares honest opinion of Tkachuk brothers

Matthew and Brady Tkachuk are some of the most notorious pests in the NHL. Constantly getting into scrums after the whistle, causing massive problems for their opposition, and just being a general nuisance is what they thrive off of — and of course scoring loads of goals and points and being impactful players when they’re actually playing hockey. But in a recent interview clip, Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Travis Sanheim let the world know that he doesn’t really like either of them and ...

Flyers Have A Trade Deadline Problem

The Philadelphia Flyers are a team in a position that organizations don't want to be in. They're not good enough for playoffs right now as they sit eight points back of a playoff spot and have won three of their last 10 games, they're not bad enough for a top-5 draft pick to have a good chance at winning the lottery or getting a game-changer, and they don't have players to sell for any value. So they have to either dig deep and trade players with term to get something out of the season or stan...

Could Flyers trade Owen Tippett at the deadline? NHL insider weighs in

The Philadelphia Flyers are firmly stuck in a position that no team truly wants to be in. With the Olympics going on and weeks away from the NHL resuming again, the Flyers are eight points out of a playoff spot with several teams in competition. But, they aren’t bad enough to truly sink to the bottom for one of the top draft picks this June. With that in mind, what can they even do as the trade deadline approaches on March 6? Well, it could involve trading Owen Tippett. On the latest...

If the Flyers are rebuilding, why aren’t the kids playing?

Despite Danny Briere and Rick Tocchet’s comments on how this is a ‘young team’, the Flyers’ reluctance to consistently play their young prospects shows that they might be more focused on short-term stability than long-term growth. The Philadelphia Flyers have undoubtedly been struggling — losing 12 of their last 15 — and during a skid like this, you’d expect the young guys to be getting heavy minutes, right? Well, that hasn’t been the case. The kids aren’t alright With The Offsp...

The Flyers’ 3 greatest single-game performances ever

The Philadelphia Flyers have had their share of point-getters over the course of their history, even if some of those players haven’t been seen in some time. Whether it was Eric Lindros, Rick Tocchet, Claude Giroux, Mark Recchi, John LeClair, or Tim Kerr, several Flyers have had games where everything went right from start to finish. Here then are the top three single-game performances from Flyers over this history. These are in no particular order and there are also an honorable mention. ...

Wednesday Morning Fly By: We’re Team Czechia in this house

*It’s Flyers At The Olympics Time! We (and by we I mean me, the person writing this, who is technically sort of in charge, and I did not consult anyone else so the views expressed here may not reflect the views of Broad Street Hockey as a whole) are rooting for Team Czechia around here, and our boy Dan Vladar is pumped and ready to go! [ Inquirer ] *Presumably Rick Tocchet is also pumped and ready to go. [ Inquirer ] *In fact it’s probably safe to assume that all of the NHLers compet...

Jamie Drysdale’s development is just what the Flyers needed

The Philadelphia Flyers traded one of the top prospects in hockey, Cutter Gauthier , for an inexperienced, inconsistent, and oft-injured defenseman in Jamie Drysdale. They certainly had their pick of names to choose from in the very private, under-the-table Gauthier sweepstakes, and the front office decided Drysdale was worth hitching their wagons to. To that point, the young defenseman had begun to stall in his development, but with a more stable environment in Philadelphia, we’re just beginn...

Philadelphia Flyers Winter 2026 Top 25 Under 25: Honorable mentions

As the Philadelphia Flyers take a break and the trio of Olympians head to Italy to go represent their country and hopefully get some sort of medal, we’re taking a broader look at the future of this organization. While the full Top 25 Under 25 series goes on during the summer over here at Broad Street Hockey, we thought it would be a perfect opportunity, with no Flyers going on, to have a mid-season check-in. Just look at where we think some prospects are heading and where some young profe...
