Colts in Playoffs? PLAYOFFS? Philip Rivers trying to win a game! Peach Bowl talk comes early!
Morning, all! Jacob Webb has signed a one year deal with the Chicago Cubs, joining fellow former Ranger relievers Hoby Milner and Phil Matom. And that’s all I’m seeing out there today.
If you have access to The Athletic (we don’t but Barry Jacobs clued us in to this), there is an interesting piece up on Cameron Boozer, asking if he has emerged as the first pick. The criticism of Boozer has been over his athleticism, or alleged lack of athleticism really, and the Athletic article suggests […]
Christmastime has been a time of reflection for yours truly in recent years. So, with that in mind, I want to preemptively thank those of you who reach out this time of year. Your kindness, consideration, and love is always appreciated. Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s talk about the playoff-bound Chicago Bears.
I hadn’t thought a ton about Bears cornerback Kyler Gordon since he was placed on injured reserve until I saw this tweet from Sun-Times reporter Jason Lieser:

Bowls ATS: 7-8 (6-7 National, 1-1 B1G – 1 games pending) Season ATS: 139-122 (71-64 National, 68-58 B1G) We are working our way through bowl season, and so far it has been a solid start. While there was some bad misses with Kennesaw State and Missouri State, there were also winners with Delaware, Washington State, […]
One of the big things of note has been San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy’s huge night in the 48-27 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Arguably the best game of his career. Purdy went 25-34 (73 percent completion), 295 yards, and five touchdowns. In other words, Purdy went Al Bundy. Yes, I know Bundy was […]
The San Diego Padres have a current pitching rotation of Michael King, Nick Pivetta, Joe Musgrove, Randy Vasquez and possibly JP Sears, Kyle Hart or Matt Waldron. There is still time for the Padres to add more pitching this offseason and conventional wisdom says they will. How much, is another problem altogether, especially considering the […]
Mattia Perin has routinely said in the past that playing a part-time role at Juventus is something that matters more to him than being the full-time starter at pretty much any of the other clubs in Italy. It’s why, even after such a lengthy stay in Turin, there hasn’t appeared to be a temptation for […]
The Milwaukee Bucks got back in the win column after a convincing 111-94 win over the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. After a back-and-forth first quarter, the Bucks held the Pacers scoreless for nearly three minutes to start the second, building a double-digit lead from which they wouldn’t look back (despite the inevitable Pacers run […]
Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, an all-women led Home Run Applesauce podcast where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, we begin by discussing the Jeff McNeil trade, which feels like the completion of the “blowing up” of […]
The Detroit Lions’ playoff chances are little to none, but the boys in Honolulu Blue still have to suit up again on Christmas Day. They leave their families (or put them in planes) to head to Minnesota to take on the 7-8 Vikings. Detroit has dropped in nearly every power ranking, as many agree they’re […]
Hello CSR! Welcome to Ask Brian, your weekly Panthers fan mail bag for everyone! We are into the final stretch of the season and holy crap. The Panthers could actually make the playoffs. What a wild time to be in. Technically the Panthers could make the playoffs this week with a win over Seattle and […]
Happy Holidays!
Cooper Flagg turned 19 last weekend and the former Duke Blue Devil is well on his way to greatness in the NBA. After a bit of a slow start as he played out of position at point guard, Flagg is back at forward and absolutely destroying the league. He’s averaging 18.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.5 […]
The Rangers were barely awake early, unstoppable late, and somehow walked away with a win—consider it a very on-brand holiday miracle.

The pantheon of great basketball players has a problem with recency bias. Think about it: who do you think about when you think about the all-time greats? These guys are probably on your list: After that? Maybe Kareem, Magic, Bird. Maybe Olajuwon. Jerry West at least gets the logo. Usually left off are guys like […]
The Vancouver Canucks are going to trade pending unrestricted free-agent forward Kiefer Sherwood before the deadline this season, and according to multiple reports, keep an eye on the Boston Bruins as the landing spot. Sherwood has Bruins written all over him considering his style of play, and the two teams have actually been discussing this move dating back to last summer. Sherwood's been on a tear this season, scoring 16 goals and 20 points in 36 games. He's averaging 17:29 of ice-time per g...
The Eagles are back-to-back division champions and more Hard Knocks action is here! Here are some choice thoughts on the fourth episode of Hard Knocks: In-Season with the NFC East that aired on Tuesday evening on HBO and HBO Max: 1. Before even getting into the Birds taking care of business and clinching an NFC East title […]
On Christmas Day, the NFL will close its three-game holiday slate with a Week 17 matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Denver Broncos — a game that once felt capable of deciding the AFC West. Unfortunately for Kansas City, the stakes have shifted dramatically. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Denver enters as a 12.5-point […]
Keep the Dots, Ya Filthy Animal
Team USA roster season is basically here, and the early buzz is already getting uncomfortable for some fans. Michael Russo of The Athletic is expecting three names, having excellent seasons, to be on the outside looking in for the 2026 Olympics, with Cole Caufield, Jason Robertson, and John Carlson all trending toward a surprise snub.
Why Cole Caufield and Jason Robertson might miss out
The wild part with Caufield is it’s not about talent (obviously), it’s about the team's fit and th...
We have reached the NHL’s Christmas break, Blackhawks fans. And… things aren’t great right now. The Blackhawks have sunk to dead last in the NHL standings . The break comes at a good time for the Blackhawks, who have lost their last six in a row and eight of their last ten. After the game last night, André Burakovsky looked like a frustrated man who needs a break. And I’m sure he’s not alone in that regard.
It’s not great. They can be a tough watch if you’re just looking for lots of goals...

As most of us wind down at work with the holidays approaching, the NFL season is cranking up in anticipation of playoff time. Here we will break down an action-packed Week 16, but only from an LSU alumni perspective. Rams 37 at Seahawks 38 (OT) Omar Speights led the Rams with seven tackles and Anthony […]
