To end a four-game slate on the opening day of the 2026 World Juniors, Canada and Czechia hit the ice. Canada went into the tournament eager to make up for early exits in each of the last two tournaments, on both occasions coming out on the losing end versus the Czechs in the quarter-finals.
The pace was high to start the match, an indication of how important both nations felt the game was. The first advantage was earned by Canada on a hooking call to Vaclav Nestrasil.

Czechia has proven to be the nemesis of Team Canada at the past two tournaments, ending Canada’s two-year reign at the quarter-final stage of the event in 2024, then getting the same result to begin the playoff round a year ago. While Canada has therefore been shut out of the medals the last couple of years, the Czechs have...

With injuries, illnesses, and a general need for some time off, the Montreal Canadiens lined up against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday for their final game before the holiday. Overcoming a rough first period, they were the better team in the second and third, taking advantage of some power plays to earn a convincing 6-2 win before their time off.
Contributions came from just about everywhere in the lineup, as it was a team effort that saw them take over the game after the first.

Less than 24 hours after finishing a 4-0 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Montreal Canadiens travelled to Pennsylvania with their opponents to meet again at PPG Paints Arena. It ended up being a somewhat predictably sloppy game, and the Habs were able to get a point by fighting to overtime, before ultimately falling 4-3 in a shootout.
They wouldn’t have salvaged that point without their second line, which was without a doubt their most dangerous on the night.

Watching the Montreal Canadiens this season has so far has been fun, frustrating, and at times infuriating. The most consistent source of frustration has probably been the goaltending the team has received this season, but close behind that has been officiating.
That’s not new, nor is it unique for sports fans, though I do think the NHL’s officiating is significantly worse than most other sports. Talk to any fanbase in the NHL for long enough, and they’ll probably tell you the refs are ou...

Montreal is the better team to begin the period, with the opening three shots on goal, the latest off a bad turnover right to the slot from Kris Letang.
Jakub Dobeš’s first save comes as he takes the net off on one of his aggressive moves to the post. Those little plastic pegs aren’t enough to handle the force he uses.
