Rockets wave JD Davison
The Houston Rockets are waiving guard JD Davison, it was announced today by the team. Davison was on a two-way deal last year, playing in 28 games with the varsity, but getting just 7 minutes per night in those contests. He averaged 2.5 points and 1.3 assists. In his most extended action of the year […]
VOTE: Do you consider Jabari Smith Jr. a Rockets draft bust?
Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NBA. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Rockets fans and fans across the country. There’s been a couple lists making their rounds on social media discussing some of the biggest NBA Draft busts of the last 20 years. One of […]
Baba Oladotun is destined for the Rockets
Hakeem Olajuwon. The patron saint of Houston Rockets basketball. A man whose legacy is being drafted number one ahead of Michael Jordan, and actually, it wasn’t even that bad of a decision. Olajuwon in a Toronto Raptors jersey. Ew. It happened, though. Olajuwon played 17 seasons for the good guys and took his talents north […]

Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta is wise not to meddle with team
You don’t need to understand basketball to own an NBA team. You need to understand money. How it talks and walks. The mechanisms it uses to make the world go around. Basketball is merely a conduit. For a while, it was unclear whether Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta understood his function. It’s somewhat understandable. When […]
One player will benefit the most from Fred VanVleet’s return
We are officially in the “dog days of summer,” as the saying goes, as the NBA takes a back seat to Major League Baseball and, soon, the NFL, while the NBA offseason slowly churns along. We are likely getting a schedule release next week, as news has leaked that the NBA will release every team’s […]
Rockets to host annual back-to-school bash
The Houston Rockets, along with the rest of the NBA, are in the middle of their offseason. Players are doing their individual workouts, coaches are going over their training camp and start-of-season plans, and the front office is, as usual, thinking ahead about how to improve their teams. Late July through Early September are usually […]
Rockets could have one of NBA’s best starting lineups
The Houston Rockets are expected to sport a starting lineup featuring Fred VanVleet, Amen Thompson, Kevin Durant, Jabari Smith Jr. and Alperen Sengun for the upcoming season. Inserting VanVleet as the starting point guard could elevate Houston’s first five and make it one of the best in the league. Bleacher Report contributor Greg Swartz ranked […]
What we learned about the Rockets this offseason
Now that LeBron James has finally chosen the team he will, in all likelihood, finish his career with, all the major signings, trades, and additions have been made for this offseason. This offseason will go down as one of the most active in terms of star-level players switching teams in recent NBA history. From Giannis […]
VOTE: Who goes if the Rockets flame out again this season?
Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NBA. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Rockets fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys. The Houston Rockets are underachievers. If you are what you are, then over the last two […]
SB Nation Reacts results: Rockets expected to improve next season
It hasn’t been the earth-shattering offseason that some Houston Rockets fans wanted. That doesn’t mean it hasn’t been consequential. Marcus Smart is a significant addition. There’s some hope (isn’t there? Some?) that Bogdan Bogdanovic has a bounce-back year. Bruce Thornton looks like he could crack the rotation. There’s also a returning Fred VanVleet (optimism levels […]
Why Rockets dull offseason may not be a bad thing
The Houston Rockets have not made as much of a splash this summer as they did last year, when they acquired Kevin Durant in a blockbuster trade with the Phoenix Suns. This offseason has been all about adding veterans to the mix, which is why the team signed point guard Marcus Smart from the Los […]
Rockets sign forward Julian Phillips
The Houston Rockets continue to fill out their roster in anticipation of training camp, as it was announced yesterday that they signed free agent forward Julian Phillips to a non-guranteed deal. The 6’8” Phillips is still just 22 years old, and he was the 35th pick ouf of Tennessee in the 2023 NBA Draft by […]
Rockets sign forward/center Oscar Tshiebwe
The Houston Rockets continue to fill out their roster before the start of the 2026-2027 NBA season, as it was announced today that they have signed free agent forward/center Oscar Tshiebwe. The 6’8” big man from the Congo went to high school in Pennsylvania and was a four-star recruit heading into college. He played for […]
Rockets re-sign Jae’Sean Tate and Isaiah Crawford
Veteran forward Jae’Sean Tate has been re-signed by the Houston Rockets, the team announced on Thursday. Tate, who is currently 30 years old, first signed with the Rockets in the 2020 summer as an undrafted free agent. There was no disclosure of financial details. But according to Varun Shankar of the Houston Chronicle, the deal […]
Rockets Chip Engelland hire could change the team
If Amen Thompson could shoot. If Alperen Sengun could shoot. If pigs could fly… Well, that wouldn’t benefit the Houston Rockets in any immediate way. It’s been one of the two biggest questions surrounding this team. If you’re talking Rockets, it’s “do they have a franchise player?”, and it’s “Can Thompson and Sengun co-exist if […]
Rockets must fix offensive environment
Men lie, women lie, and numbers lie too. Well, people use numbers to lie. Guns don’t kill people. People kill people with guns, and it’s harder to kill people without guns, so guns are still part of the problem. Some NBA fans have an almost instinctively negative reaction to numbers. They’re quite sure that statistics […]

Rockets receive unfortunate offseason grade
The Houston Rockets are maneuvering through their offseason trying to get better with smaller details compared to last year’s big, splashy trade for Kevin Durant. The team has made moves that haven’t shaken the league, but they have given the Rockets a chance to improve. CBS Sports contributor Sam Quinn graded the team’s offseason and […]
What’s next for Bruce Thornton this upcoming season
Editor’s Note: Welcome back to our old friend, Lachard! The Houston Rockets Summer League saw their season come to an end Saturday with a 97-86 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies in the semifinals. The Rockets made the semifinals after finishing 3-1 in the quarterfinals because of point differential, the second tiebreaker. Players like Quadir Copeland, […]

Three Rockets on the worst-layup-percentage list
A curious statistic is making its way across social media that connects four Houston Rockets players in a not-so-good way. Here’s a list of the worst layup FG% in the NBA over the last 5 seasons (min. 600 layup attempts) So who’s on the list? Fred VanVleet, Clint Capela, and Tari Eason are all here. […]
The Rockets can’t be afraid of a “strategic step back”
It’s rumor season. The dog days of summer. Always liked that expression. Life is probably pretty good as a dog. The word takes a different meaning when it comes to the Houston Rockets. You’re not in the rotation if you don’t “have that dog in you”. Dogs are anthropomorphized as both lazy and hardworking. English […]
