Oh about Gore

Yeah I was only doing bats. Gore is the only arm that I think deserves talking about in terms of a long-term signing. I like Lord and Ferrer but relief pitching is notoriously fickle, neither of these guys is lights out (or likely to be that) so they just feel very replaceable and not something you gamble money on keeping past age 30.  As arms go Parker and Irvin are nothing to hold on to. I mean I guess if they want to be REAL reasonable and sign for cheap so they don't have to move...&n...

Schadenfreude 364 (A Continuing Series)

Monday Texas 8, DAAAYANKEESLOSE 5 (10) Yankees Will Play Closer Role 'Night By Night' After Devin Williams' Latest Meltdown Greg Joyce, Post When the Yankees acquired two closers at the deadline, they recommitted to Devin Williams as their ninth-inning guy. Less than a week later, that job is more up for grabs. A night after Williams blew a save and gave up a run for the fifth time in his last seven outings, Aaron Boone indicated he would be more fluid with who his closer is on a give...

Schadenfreude 362 (A Continuing Series)

Since May 29, the MFY have the worst record in the AL East: 13-19. Blue Jays   21  10 Rays    19 12 Orioles  18  13 Red Sox  16 14 Yankees  13  19 They were just swept by the now-in-first-place Blue Jays, who scored 36 runs in the four games. Toronto has not been in first place this "late" in a season since 2016 . OH SHIT . . .  BUFFY GOT THE BROOM OUT ! And he waved it  in the eminently punchable face of the pompously annoying Michael Kay...

Schadenfreude 361 (A Continuing Series)

The Red Sox have a 10-5 record in the month of June, with five of those 10 victories against the Yankees. June 7: Red Sox 10, MFY 7 June 8: Red Sox 11, MFY 7 June 13: Red Sox 2, MFY 1 (10) June 14: Red Sox 4, MFY 3 June 15: Red Sox 2, MFY 0 The 2-0 shutout on Father's Day turned the MFY bats into wet noodles. With subsequent losses to the Angels, 1-0 (11) and 4-0, the Yankees have not scored a run in their last 29 innings. As you can see below, that's a grand total of four runs in their last f...

MLB Trade Rumors and News: Jansen to the Braves, Yankees trade Voit

Photo by Dylan Buell/Getty Images It was a busy past few days for many east coast teams. While the initial rush of deals and trades post-lockout has putted out, we’re still seeing the movement of some very big names as we come closer to Opening Day. Some of those being names and teams we can’t say we were fully expecting—Kenley Jansen?! To the Braves?! Just in case some of those news nuggets slipped through your notification cracks, we’ve done the legwork for you, as there’s a drive into ...

Yankees Acquire Josh Donaldson And Isiah Kiner-Falefa

The Yankees finally made their first big move of the offseason in a surprising trade with the Twins, but who was the winner of the trade? Last night, the Yankees made their first big splash of the offseason. New York sent Gary Sanchez and Gio Urshela to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for Isiah Kiner-Falefa, […]

Are the Yankees in on Seiya Suzuki?

The New York Yankees showed interest in Japanese Star Seiya Suzuki before the MLB lockout. Could he end up in Pinstripes? Many Yankees fans have shown frustration towards their team early in free agency. Although it’s still early December, many big-name free agents have flown off the board ahead of the lockdown. With the work […]

The Coors Effect 8/13/20

Hey baseball fans! Thus far into the abridged 2020 MLB season, it seems that former and present members of the Colorado Rockies (DJ LeMahieu and Charlie Blackmon) are some of the best hitters in baseball in terms of batting average. DJ is now on the Yankees, but when he played a mile above sea level, he did, in fact, win a batting title. But why are hitters on the Rockies so good? The answer is simple, and I kind of already hinted at it when I said "a mile above sea level." That's right: it's ...

My History with Baseball 6/5/20

Hey baseball fans! It's a somber time to be a baseball fan for plenty of reasons, so I wanted share my story of how I fell in love with America's pastime. I don't think I really talk about how I got involved with the game much, but it's a story worth telling. Back in 2007, Hall of Fame manager Joe Torre and the New York Yankees were in the American League Division Series against the Cleveland Indians. The Yanks had stars like Derek Jeter and Johnny Damon, while the Indians had recognizab...

An Almost 5-Game Winning Streak

Nice job by HH and BroHo today in an 11-0 win. The loss on Saturday still kills me though--we could have gone into the break on a 5-gamer. So the first half ends with us 5 back of the Yanks and 10 back of first place in the loss column. The perfect set-up to a second-half funtime comeback. And we start at home against the Royals, just like in the Morgan's Magic season of 1988. I was lucky enough to be at that doubleheader that started all the fun that year. I can't believe all the origin...

I Must Break You

The Yankees' Ivan Drago, Tanaka, is headed home for an MRI and has been placed on the DL. Nice to see the lights dimmed on their one bright spot, at least for now. And CC may be done too. It's a shame, I kinda liked watching him drag his droopy derriere onto the diamond. In other news, you can say goodbye to AJ Pierzynski. The man with the golden arm has been called up. And with Holt starting at short tonight, maybe the Stephen Drew self-imposed prison sentence is over!

Back-hholz

Nice job by HH last night. Efficient as a mofo. Koji makes it close in the 9th but gets the save. Know what I can't have? Eck talking over plays. And Drew's 0-fer streak is now at...some number above 20, I can't keep track anymore. On to The Bronx for the weekend.

Crap

This screenshot from last night tells you all you need to know about...everything. You've got Cano lazily tossing to first. Drew making an easy out. NESN covering a vital part of a live play with some stupid other thing (while the announcers talk about it). And I'd add "none of the well-known grunge bands in the poll," but they said this was "Round 2," so I have to believe Round 1 featured the Basic Four: Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains, probably in that classic order, tho...

Yanks Almost Win But Still Lose <--One Of My Favorite English Phrases

After TYR*ing for 5 runs in the 7th to tie the game (two Toronto errors and a double on what Gameday calls a "soft fly ball to shortstop), the Yanks lose it in the bottom of the 9th on an E of their own, as Solarte throws one away, causing the winning run to score and the Blue Jays to celebrate as if they haven't won anything since 1993. Speaking of Solarte, now that he blows goats, what are they gonna do with his plaque? That's the fourth loss in a row for the Bronx Unabombers. Their June ...
