Let The Debate Continue

I won't deny that I was very against the idea that both Drew Doughty and Travis Sanheim were named to the Canadian Olympic team on Wednesday, and I voiced those opinions on January 1 on The Hockey Show . I haven't changed my opinion on either player's inclusion on the roster when younger players like Owen Power, Jacob Chychrun, Noah Dobson, and Matthew Schafer are available to go and will be the future of the Canadian Olympic team long after both Doughty's and Sanheim's times have passed. Toni...

Alex Nylander scores twice as Toronto Marlies win wild 10-goal game against Rochester

“I don’t know that we necessarily want to get into that type of game (run and gun) with [Rochester]. Once we started to structure it up, get above them, and create some turnovers, they didn’t have the same success as in the first period. Credit to our players for turning it around right from the […] The post Alex Nylander scores twice as Toronto Marlies win wild 10-goal game against Rochester appeared first on Maple Leafs Hotstove .

Hawks lose plot late in defeat in Toronto

The Atlanta Hawks suffered a disheartening defeat to the Toronto Raptors on Saturday night, losing 134-117 in a game that was more competitive than the final scoreline might suggest. The Hawks trailed by just one point heading into the fourth quarter, but managed just 11 points in the final frame and were outscored by 16 […]

Auston Matthews passes Mats Sundin as Maple Leafs all-time goal leader

Auston Matthews sits atop Toronto Maple Leafs history. With two goals against the New York Islanders on Saturday night, Matthews tied, and surpassed Mats Sundin as the best goal scorer in franchise history. Matthews scored his 421st career goal against the Islanders, one a great feed from linemate Bobby McMann, setting up the one-timer. Happy Birthday Ted Lilly and Kevin Pillar

Ted Lilly turns 50 today. Ted had a 15-year career, 3 of them with the Blue Jays. He came to the Jays in trade for Bobby Kielty from the A’s. Lilly went 37-34 as a Jay, with a 4.52 ERA in 89 games and a bWAR of 6.0. I think we won the trade. In […]

Today on Pinstripe Alley – 1/4/26

Yesterday offered the second notable Japanese free agent signing of 2026, and once again, the Yankees didn’t seem to be a factor. The divison rival Blue Jays came to terms with Kazuma Okamoto on a four-year, $60 million contract. Are there red flags and would it have taken some time to figure out his specific […]

Islanders 4, Maple Leafs 3 (OT): This kid’s incredible

Matthew Schaefer scored two highlight reel goals, including a tying goal and an overtime winner, as the Islanders came back and beat the Maple Leafs, 4-3, Saturday night on Long Island. Rumors of Auston Matthews’ demise have been greatly exaggerated, as the maligned Maple Leafs captain continued his tear with two goals*, but the Islanders’ […]

Craig Berube on Morgan Rielly’s -4 game vs. the Islanders: “Tonight was a tough one, but he’s played some really good hockey for us this year… I’m not worried about it”

Craig Berube addressed the media after his team’s 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Islanders, which dropped the Maple Leafs’ record to 19-15-7. On the team’s performance: Going into the third period, I didn’t think we pushed enough. I thought we didn’t have the puck enough and sat back a little too much. We […] The post Craig Berube on Morgan Rielly’s -4 game vs. the Islanders: “Tonight was a tough one, but he’s played some really good hockey for us this year… I’m not worried about it” appe...

Hawks’ strong start fades in fourth quarter loss to Raptors

The Atlanta Hawks put together one of their most competitive road efforts of the season. Still, they couldn’t sustain enough defensive stops or rebounding edge in a 134–117 loss to the Toronto Raptors Saturday night at Scotiabank Arena. Atlanta overcame early sluggishness with a balanced offensive attack and hot perimeter shooting, yet Toronto’s relentless scoring […]

Ahead of their match-up against the Atlanta Hawks, the first of a two-game series between these two teams, Raptors’ coach Darko Rajakovic talked about setting good habits. Using the word ‘habits’ is another […]

Canada's Other Olympic Team

Hockey USA was busy today as they were on television with all their representatives for the two Olympic hockey teams that are heading to Milano-Cortina in Feburary. Canada's men's team was announced on Wednesday, so we already know which NHLers will be wearing the maple leaf in Italy. The women have yet to be announced, but there will be a number of familiar faces on the roster once again - Poulin, Fillier, Jenner, Clark, Fast, and Desbiens are nearly locks for the event. What may surprise you...

MLB Roundup – Toronto, Houston land Japanese stars

There’s almost always a cyclical nature to the MLB offseason. It typically begins with a flurry, especially now that Qualifying Offer decisions (and their $20+ million price tags) force the hands of teams within a week of the end of the World Series. Teams often try to get a jump on the offseason and put […]
